The Barclays: Travel

HARRISON, NY - AUGUST 26: The audience watches the 16th hole during the final round of The Barclays, the inaugural event of the new PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup at Westchester Country Club August 26, 2007 in Harrison, New York. (Photo by M. Ehrmann/Getty Images)Westchester Country Club is situated in the city of Rye, which is really an affluent suburb of New York. Rye is only half an hour from the ‘Big Apple’, and many nouveau-riche New Yorkers have moved out of the bustling city to the countryside and the wide open spaces of Westchester Country.

The area is possibly one of the most picturesque regions in north-east USA. It is flanked by the Long Island Sound and Hudson River, and is famous for its fabulous gardens and over 40 parks.

Attractions

One of Rye’s biggest attractions is ‘Rye Playland’, an amusement park owned and operated by the government. Other Barclays travel attractions include:

  • A myriad of museums and galleries. New Yorkers often travel to this area over the weekends to do antique hunting
  • An African American heritage trail
  • American Revolutionary sites

Restaurants

After following the leaders at the Barclays, make for Rye and enjoy some of the excellent cuisine on offer. There are several restaurants catering for all tastes, but we have singled out three restaurants which have had rave reviews recently:

  • Water Moon offers Pan-Asian cuisine is very chic surroundings. They can be found at 66 Purchase Street, and the contact number is 914 921 8880. For more information, go to their website.
  • Seaside Johnnies is at 94 Dearborn Avenue, and the telephone number is 914 921 6104. This laid back eatery is situated on the beach, and fresh seafood and great cocktails can be enjoyed under straw umbrellas.
